1. Important notes

Welcome to Hitbase 2003.

Notes for Windows ME/Windows 2000 (Pre SP2) Users:
Hitbase saves all data in the MS-Access database format and uses the Microsoft Jet-Engine 4.0. The original version of the JET database interface had an error, which could cause Hitbase to crash under certain conditions. Microsoft provides a service pack which corrects this problem. You can download the update here:

Note: You don't need the JET-Engine Service Pack if you have Windows 98, Windows 2000 SP2 and higher or Windows XP installed. These versions are not effected by the bug or have the bug fix integrated.

2. System requirements

Hitbase 2003 runs under the following operating systems

• Windows 98
• Windows 98 SE
• Windows ME
• Windows 2000
• Windows XP (Home Edition or Professional)

3. New features in Hitbase 2003

The new version of Hitbase contains many new features and improvements. Many thanks to all the users who passed on tips and suggestions to enable us to make Hitbase even better. We have tried to include as many wishes as possible.

• Music-CDs (MP3, WMA, WAV) now can be managed and saved in the database.
• SoundProcessor changed from Wave-Input to DirectSound (allows better performance for real-time analysis of signals).
• The user interface is now completly configurable (Skins).
• It is now possible to dock the CD-Player to the top or bottom of the screen (Docking Mode). The player fades out automatically when the mouse cursor leaves the window.
• New database fields "recording year" (for CDs and tracks) and "Copyright" (for CDs).
• New routines for ripping CDs. Better performance and better Jitter-correction. Recording possible without ASPI-driver (only for Windows 2000/XP).
• CD-Text CDs will be supported now, i.e. information like artist or title can be read directly from the CD.
  Please note: Not every CD drive is able to read "CD-Text"-informationen.
• Now 24 different graphic formats will be supported (e.g. JPG, PNG, JPEG2000, BMP, ...).
• Because of new extended filter functions a more extensive search for specific CDs or tracks is possible.
• CD-Cover editor with more features.
• It is now possible to import the snapshot file of the Hitbase CD archive (www.cdarchiv.de).
• Drag & Drop CDs from one catalog to another.
• While sending CDs to the Hitbase CD archive, error messages will be displayed in a separate detail window.
• General performance enhancements (especially for the import function).
• The content of particular fields can be transfered to any other field.
• Export catalog to Microsoft Word (Word 97 and higher).
• Export catalog to a HTML file.
• Many detailed improvements.

4. Bug-Reports and suggestions

Although we find most errors during the internal test phase, we need your help. Many errors only occur with a special hardware or software configuration or only things we didn't consider.
